In an article for the Financial Times, Sylvie Kaufmann, the editorial director of the French newspaper Le Monde, discusses the recent comments made by American historian Timothy Snyder during his lecture at Sorbonne. He emphasized the need for Europe to actively support Ukraine, proposing not only EU membership but also military assistance and significant investments, as reported by Politeka.net.
According to him, if Europe does not take a proactive stance, it risks "living in the shadow of war." Snyder highlighted that it is Europe’s responsibility to act now, as the USA is unlikely to assume the primary role in ensuring stability on the continent.
Kaufmann notes that Europe has finally recognized the danger and is attempting to take measures to avoid a "separate agreement" between Putin and Trump. She emphasizes that Europe must actively engage not only in peace negotiations but also in the implementation of peace agreements, particularly regarding security guarantees for Ukraine, as stated by Politeka.net.
An unnamed European official mentioned that there are currently intense discussions about what security guarantees should be provided to Ukraine and what formats of cooperation between European countries can be implemented outside of the EU, according to Politeka.net.
Among the most determined countries in this debate are Poland, the Baltic states, Sweden, and Finland, while France is trying to take on a leadership role, though this is a challenging task.
"For some Europeans, especially those most vulnerable to the Russian threat, the potential fall of Ukraine is a terrifying prospect, as they would be next in line. Caught between Putin and Trump, Europeans are finally facing the reality they have long tried to escape," concludes Kaufmann.

As reported by Politeka, Musiienko assessed Trump's phone call with Putin: 'This speaks, by the way, of Russia's weakness'.
Politeka also reported that Bortnik explained how the USA plans to freeze the Russian-Ukrainian war along the front line, if that does not suit anyone.
