While the United States currently lacks a clear plan to end the war, Trump is already making bold statements that put Russia in its place.
This was shared by former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Volodymyr Ohryzko during a broadcast on Espreso. He added that the war cannot be ended in 24 hours, as Donald Trump promised in his campaign speeches.
"Trump said this because he wanted to portray himself as a macho who can accomplish anything in a day. Now we're talking about 100 days, and then another 100 days. It's already clear that there is no detailed plan laid out, but there are positive aspects – he is starting, excuse me, to put pressure on Putin. And that's good because it shows who is in charge," Ohryzko noted.
In response to Trump's sharp remarks, Putin appears to be losing influence, as economic pressure on Russia continues to mount. The expert also pointed out that the current global situation is defined by two main players – the United States and China. In this scenario, Russia cannot claim a leading role.
Ohryzko mentions that U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker may visit Kyiv as early as February. He emphasizes that this is a very intelligent individual who will be able to assess the situation rationally. Therefore, the Ukrainian side should seize this opportunity to explain its position.
One of the most important steps, according to Ohryzko, is the implementation of serious economic sanctions against Russia, which could damage its infrastructure, particularly the energy sector. In the expert's view, this would compel Putin to change his stance if he does not wish to cease military actions against Ukraine.
