This is an inevitable step towards reaching a peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine.
According to Bloomberg, this was stated by a senior official from Trump's team.
European allies, particularly France, are actively working to gain Washington's support to ensure security guarantees for Kyiv. They believe that without U.S. involvement in this initiative, peacekeeping efforts may not yield the desired effect. As President Zelensky notes, Ukraine needs American troops as part of the peacekeeping forces to make security guarantees truly effective.
Initially, Trump was skeptical about this move, but now, according to sources, his team is ready to take responsibility for ensuring Ukraine's security.
"Trump's skepticism about supporting Ukraine may have softened. According to a senior Western diplomat who spoke with the president's team on this issue, his team has shown readiness for the U.S. to focus on providing security guarantees to Ukraine, which they privately acknowledge as inevitable," the publication reports.
At the same time, the U.S. is prepared for other measures to pressure Putin. Trump has repeatedly stated his willingness to intensify economic sanctions against the Kremlin if Russia does not cease hostilities in Ukraine. However, concrete results have yet to be achieved, and Putin shows no readiness to make certain concessions.
Despite pressure from European allies, the future of peacekeeping initiatives remains uncertain. In the coming weeks, U.S. Special Representative Keith Kellogg will visit Kyiv to discuss further steps in the negotiations.
"Given the need for strong guarantees and the role of the U.S., the future of peacekeeping initiatives remains complex and depends on further dialogue between Washington, Kyiv, and European capitals," the article concludes.
