Negotiations between Ukraine and Russia may take place in early 2025.
According to CNN, citing Ukrainian and American officials, these talks were planned for this timeframe even if Kamala Harris were to win the elections in the U.S.
Before Donald Trump's inauguration, the Biden administration announced a final significant military aid package for Ukraine amounting to approximately $500 million. This decision is intended to provide Ukraine with even greater leverage in future negotiations. It was expected that the U.S. Secretary of Defense would detail this figure at the last meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group led by the U.S. at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.
"Both the American and Ukrainian administrations anticipated that negotiations with Moscow could occur in the first half of 2025 – regardless of who won the elections in the U.S. – with the aim of further strengthening Ukraine's position before potential talks," CNN reports.
Interestingly, the day before, a representative of newly elected President Donald Trump for Ukraine and Russia, Kit Kellogg, stated that he hopes to end the war in Ukraine within 10 days after the inauguration of the newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump.
