One of the European countries is ready to send troops to Ukraine if necessary to ensure security guarantees, reports Politeka.net.
This was stated by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer.
In his column, he mentioned that during his visit to Paris, he would urge Europeans to increase defense spending, become more actively involved in NATO activities, and enhance support for the Ukrainian army to ensure it has the strongest possible position in the upcoming negotiations.
Starmer emphasized that the United Kingdom is prepared to take a leading role in providing security guarantees for Ukraine, which includes support for Ukrainian troops and, if necessary, the deployment of British forces, according to Politeka.
"I feel a deep sense of responsibility related to the potential threat to British servicemen. However, any role in helping to guarantee Ukraine's security is assistance in ensuring the safety of our continent and the security of this country. The end of this war, whenever it occurs, cannot simply be a temporary pause before Putin attacks again."
At the same time, he noted that only the United States can deter Putin from a renewed attack, so support from America and its security guarantees are essential for a stable peace.
Starmer also stressed that peace cannot be achieved at any cost and that Ukraine must participate in the negotiations. If this does not happen, Putin will cement his position that Ukraine is not a real nation.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of avoiding a situation similar to Afghanistan, where the U.S. engaged in direct negotiations with the Taliban and allowed the Afghan government to fall.
Starmer called for continued support for Ukraine’s irreversible path to NATO and for increasing economic pressure on Russia. He suggested working on capping oil prices, combating the "shadow fleet," and targeting companies that help Moscow circumvent sanctions.
"These days will determine the future security of our continent. As I will say in Paris, peace is achieved through strength. But it is also true that weakness leads to war," he concluded.
