Donald Trump's special envoy, Keith Kellogg, is set to present options for a peace plan regarding the war in Ukraine to the American leader in the near future.
This information comes from Bloomberg, citing its own sources. It is expected that the retired general will discuss with European officials their willingness to take the initiative in deploying deterrent forces to ensure any peaceful resolution in Ukraine during the Munich Conference, which begins on February 14. However, the U.S. is unlikely to send its own troops for these efforts and will instead provide other forms of support.
Additionally, Kellogg will urge Europe to invest more in defense spending, a request repeatedly made by Trump. The special envoy is preparing several scenarios for ending the war for his leader. This could pave the way for direct negotiations between Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump has already stated that he is willing to negotiate with Putin to end the ongoing war in Ukraine. Should Putin refuse to engage in talks, he has threatened new sanctions.
European officials are also advising the U.S. to strengthen sanctions against the Russian energy sector, particularly by lowering the price cap on oil and utilizing frozen Russian assets. At the same time, Trump and his team are calling for Europe to more actively support Ukraine and play a larger role in this process. Washington is also hoping that in exchange for such support, Kyiv will grant access to its natural resources and purchase more energy resources from the U.S.
