Zelensky on halting Russian gas transit: This is one of Moscow's biggest defeats.

Зеленский о прекращении транзита газа из России: Это одно из значительных поражений для Москвы.

As of today, the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine to Europe has dropped to 0. This has become one of the most significant defeats for Moscow.

This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing a statement from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"When (Russian dictator Vladimir, - ed.) Putin was granted power in Russia over 25 years ago, the annual gas transit through Ukraine to Europe was over 130 billion cubic meters. Today, the transit of Russian gas is 0. This is one of Moscow's biggest defeats," Zelensky emphasized.

He explained that turning energy resources into weapons and the cynical energy blackmail of partners has deprived Russia of the most appealing and geographically accessible market.

The President noted that most European countries have successfully adapted to changes related to energy transformation.

He stressed that the common task now is to support Moldova in this process. At the same time, he stated that it is important to resist the pressure from some European politicians who continue to choose collaboration with Moscow's mafia schemes instead of a transparent energy policy.

"We are very hopeful for an increase in American gas supplies to Europe, as President Trump has already mentioned. Cooperation and maximum offers from partners in the market will help make prices more comfortable," he underscored.

At the end of his statement, Zelensky concluded that the more gas there is in the market from true partners of Europe, the faster the last negative consequences of European energy dependence on Russia will be overcome.

Termination of Russian Gas Transit through Ukraine

We remind you that starting January 1, 2025, Ukraine ceased the transit of Russian gas to Europe, ending its contract with Gazprom.

It should be noted that Ukraine shut off the gas valve on January 1 at 07:00, depriving Moscow of approximately 5-7 billion dollars in annual revenue. This occurred immediately after the completion of the five-year contract between Naftogaz and Gazprom.

The European Union had prepared for this scenario in advance by developing alternative supply routes and infrastructure for importing liquefied natural gas, ensuring stability in energy supply in the region.

It is worth noting that we have already written about how the cessation of transit will affect Europe.
