In just one day, the Russian army lost 1,600 soldiers and a record amount of equipment, according to the General Staff.

During the 24-hour period from January 20 to 21, Russian forces lost 1,600 soldiers, approximately 300 units of equipment, and 130 drones on the front lines.

This is reported by RBK-Ukraine citing data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The total combat losses of the enemy from February 24, 2022, to January 21, 2025, are estimated as follows:

  • personnel - approximately 822,030 (+1,600) killed;
  • tanks - 9,833 (+12) units;
  • armored fighting vehicles - 20,477 (+23) units;
  • artillery systems - 22,134 (+60) units;
  • MLRS - 1,262 units;
  • air defense systems - 1,050 (+1) units;
  • airplanes - 369 units;
  • helicopters - 331 units;
  • operational-tactical level drones - 22,898 (+130) units;
  • cruise missiles - 3,051 units;
  • ships/boats - 28 units;
  • submarines - 1 unit;
  • automotive and fuel tank vehicles - 34,682 (+194) units;
  • special equipment - 3,710 (+4) units.

Situation on the Front and Russian Air Attacks

According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the invaders achieved success in three directions in the Donetsk region over the course of a day.

The aggressor has increased shelling of the Chernihiv and Sumy regions to force the Armed Forces of Ukraine to guard the state border in these areas.

Additionally, on the morning of January 21, explosions were heard in Dnipro amid threats of ballistic weapon attacks.
