The Ukrainian Armed Forces maintain a "buffer" in the Kursk region. This protects the territories of Sumy and Kharkiv from potential offensives.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing a statement from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Zelensky stated that a series of military briefings with commanders and a conversation with Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov regarding the situation at the front have taken place.
He emphasized that the key areas for Ukrainian forces remain the Donetsk region and the areas involved in the Kursk operation.
Zelensky noted that Ukrainian troops have been actively operating in the Kursk region for nearly six months, highlighting the significance of these operations for the protection of Ukrainian territory.
"We are maintaining a buffer zone on Russian territory to safeguard our Sumy and Kharkiv from Russian offensives," the president stated.
Recall that in the summer of 2024, Ukrainian forces launched a successful offensive in the Kursk region, capturing significant territories.
In response, Russia attracted about 11,000 North Korean soldiers to support its forces in the autumn. However, due to inadequate training and a lack of a common language, North Korean troops suffered considerable losses.
Recently, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi shared insights after six months of the Kursk operation.
