A large-scale process of decommunization of the judiciary has begun in Ukraine, affecting more than a hundred local courts. Among those impacted are Dnipro and the surrounding region. MP Irina Gerashchenko from the "European Solidarity" faction announced the adoption of amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On the Judiciary and the Status of Judges" (bill No. 12351) by the Verkhovna Rada, which provides for the renaming of 103 local general courts across the country. This was reported by "Vidomo".
"Imagine, in some cities of Ukraine, there were still courts named after Lenin, Dzerzhinsky, and Kirov. More than 100 courts bore the names of murderers and executioners from the era of Soviet terror," the MP noted.
This decision, supported by 277 members of parliament, marks a significant step in cleansing Ukraine of its Soviet legacy and symbols of totalitarianism.
