Russian agents planned to carry out a terrorist attack in Zhytomyr. The traitors intended to detonate a police unit that was supposed to arrive in response to a fake call.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the press center of the Security Service of Ukraine.

The traitors turned out to be two residents of the Dnipropetrovsk region, who were remotely recruited by Russians through Telegram channels looking for "easy" money.

Following the occupiers' instructions, the young men traveled by bus to Zhytomyr. Upon arriving in the city, they received geolocation coordinates of a stash via messenger, from which they retrieved two packages containing explosive devices intended for the attack.

Russian agents had previously rented an apartment in Zhytomyr and installed two homemade explosive devices there. One of the explosives was hidden in a soft toy, while the other was connected to a mobile phone, the camera of which recorded the entrance to the premises.

The enemy planned to remotely activate both devices when police officers entered the premises through an open door. At that time, the traitors were supposed to hide in a hotel to receive further instructions from their "curator."

The Security Service of Ukraine acted preemptively, documented all preparations for the attack, and detained both individuals in the hotel following a call to the police's "hotline."

Forensic examination established that the homemade explosive devices were packed in thermoses and filled with stones to enhance their destructive effect in case of detonation.

The suspects were charged under part 2 of Article 15 and part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (completed attempt to commit a terrorist act by a group of individuals in conspiracy). They are currently in custody, facing up to 12 years behind bars with asset confiscation.

Terrorist Attacks Against Police and Military

It is worth noting that as early as autumn 2024, the National Police recorded a series of provocations involving attacks on law enforcement and military personnel. In particular, several such incidents occurred in Kyiv.

A similar incident took place near the military enlistment office building in Zhytomyr region. Police found a bag containing a homemade explosive device, and suspects were detained.

Also, on December 14, an explosion occurred near the military enlistment office in Dnipro. A military officer was killed in the blast, and two law enforcement officers were injured. Following the attack, law enforcement detained the perpetrator, who was working for Russian special services. Later, two suspects - a couple who manufactured the explosives - were also exposed.
