The Chinese model DeepSeek, like any artificial intelligence, collects information that users voluntarily provide. The question is where this data will end up.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine citing the head of the Center for Counteracting Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Andrey Kovalenko, on Telegram.
"DeepSeek is an excellent tool for gathering intelligence," he wrote.
Kovalenko noted that any artificial intelligence "studies you and gathers all information about your experiences, interests, family, finances, and practically everything else." People voluntarily ask questions and receive answers, while the AI retains this information.
According to him, this information can then be used to derive behavioral models of entire societies and further devise tools for influence.
"The real question is who owns this AI and what its ultimate goal is," Kovalenko added.
DeepSeek is a Chinese artificial intelligence company that develops large open-source language models. It is based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.
In January 2025, the company released its first free chatbot application, which, by January 27, surpassed ChatGPT as the most downloaded free app in the iOS App Store in the United States.
DeepSeek claims that their model was trained using Nvidia H800 chips at a cost of less than $6 million—significantly cheaper than the $100 million typically required by Western competitors. However, the accuracy of this data, like any information from communist China, is questionable.
According to the creators, the DeepSeek-V3 model outperforms other open models and is nearly on par with world-class closed models.
So far, little is known about the future of DeepSeek, but their breakthrough has already changed the landscape of the AI market, raising questions about the competitiveness of Western technologies and China's role in the global innovation race. Amid these developments, shares of major tech companies have sharply declined. Nvidia lost 10% of its value, Oracle 8%, and Palantir 7%.
