Explosions were reported in the Voronezh region (Russia) on the night of January 13. Drones were detected in the area, and air defense forces were actively engaged.

This information was provided by RBK-Ukraine, citing the governor of Voronezh region Alexander Gusev and local Telegram channels.

Warnings about a potential air attack had been issued in Voronezh region since the evening before.

Around 12:30 AM, social media posts in Voronezh began reporting a loud explosion. Later, a video of "that loud bang" near Voronezh was shared online. It was specifically noted that it was quite loud on the Left Bank.

Additionally, local posts mentioned several other explosions that were heard that night.

According to Governor Gusev, "several UAVs" were allegedly "destroyed by air defense and electronic warfare" in the suburbs of Voronezh.

The Russian official also claimed that there were no injuries or damage reported.

Later, it was announced that the threat level due to drones in Voronezh region had been lifted.

Explosions in the Voronezh area

It’s worth noting that the Russian side has reported drone attacks on Voronezh and the surrounding region multiple times before. Explosions and fires have also occurred at various sites amid these air assaults.

For instance, at the beginning of January, Russia announced a drone strike on the "Baltimore" military airfield in Voronezh. This airfield is home to the 47th Bomber Aviation Regiment of the 105th Mixed Aviation Division, primarily operating Su-34 aircraft.

Additionally, at the end of December 2024, Russian media also reported a drone attack on the "Baltimore" airfield in Voronezh.

In mid-August, explosions were also heard in the Russian city of Voronezh as a result of a drone attack and air defense actions. At that time, Russian media reported several fires and noted that explosions were particularly audible in Borisoglebsk, which also hosts a military airfield.
