In Kryvyi Rih, a lawn of cacti is flourishing – plants that are unusual for our region. This was reported by "Vidomo," referencing a post in the Facebook community "Nature of Kryvorizhya".
"It seems that the Kryvyi Rih climate is already so harsh that cacti thrive and withstand winter quite well. Pokrovskyi district, December 2024," - reflects the author of the post, Elena.
The plants in the photo resemble prickly pear – a genus of cacti comprising around 200 species. Prickly pear is common in arid regions of America and Canada, but it also grows in Ukraine as it can endure temperatures as low as -20 degrees. In our country, prickly pear mainly thrives in the southern regions and under the supervision of specialists.
Meanwhile, in the comments under the post, readers noted that cacti have been growing in Kryvyi Rih for several decades.
