The Federal Prosecutor's Office of Germany has charged three men with espionage on behalf of Russia.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Spiegel.
According to reports, the accused hold both German and Russian citizenship. They are charged, among other things, with "agent activity in favor of intelligence services."
The charges were filed on December 9 in the Senate of State Security of the Higher Regional Court of Munich.
The main suspect is 40-year-old Dieter S. from Bayreuth, who is also accused by the Federal Prosecutor's Office of "agent activity aimed at sabotage," "photographing military sites that threaten security," and conspiracy to dangerously interfere with railway operations.
His alleged accomplices are 38-year-old Alexander Y. and 43-year-old Alex D. They are said to have studied potential targets in Bavaria.
According to the investigation, among these were the American military training ground in Grafenwöhr, where Ukrainian soldiers are also trained, as well as a tool manufacturing plant near Bayreuth, where weapons are produced.
It is also claimed that Dieter S. spied on a cargo station in Parsberg in Upper Palatinate, which is used for processing military vehicles.
German authorities began monitoring the suspects in the winter and spring of 2024. The investigation concluded that the men may have considered carrying out sabotage at military infrastructure sites in Germany.
Possible explosions and arson were also discussed. This way, the saboteurs wanted to "undermine" Berlin's military support for Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the main accused had "excellent connections" with Russian intelligence services. It is also alleged that the man once fought on the side of the so-called "DNR."
Recall that we previously reported that a Lithuanian politician is suspected of espionage on behalf of Russia.
And in Slovenia, a court sentenced a married couple from Russia to 19 months in prison each after they pleaded guilty to espionage. They were also ordered to leave the country after serving their sentence and are banned from returning to Slovenia for five years.
