In Dnipro, the construction of Ukraine's second innovative smart shelter is underway, which will be established at the Dnipropetrovsk National University named after Gontchar, reports the correspondent of "Vydomo".
The space will combine the functions of a safe shelter and a modern coworking area, allowing students to continue their education and work on projects even during air raid alerts. Additionally, this space will serve as a platform for youth to meet with businesses, fostering the development of creative initiatives and scientific research.
The first similar space is already operational in Kyiv based at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, where it gained popularity among students within just a few months of its opening. Specifically, over 33,000 people have utilized its services, and more than 100 various events have been held.
The new shelter in Dnipro will be equipped for lectures, conferences, hackathons, and other student activities. In particular, this space will be used for individual and group work, as well as for organizing student initiatives. Since the space is adapted to changing needs, it can function as a shelter during air raids or as a comfortable place for learning and exchanging ideas.

The project is being implemented with the support of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and several charitable organizations, with a total budget of around $350,000. The creation of the space is expected to be completed by mid-2025. The construction aims to incorporate modern safety and comfort standards for students, as well as to ensure the necessary conditions for the continuity of the educational process, the organizers note. Such initiatives are aimed at supporting youth so that they can remain in Ukraine and thrive, despite the challenges the country faces during the war.
