Yesterday, following a heated exchange between the President of Ukraine and the President of the United States, Donald Trump's administration unanimously decided to halt negotiations with Volodymyr Zelensky. The American side concluded that any further interaction would only regress.
This was stated by U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, as reported by RBK-Ukraine citing CNN.
According to him, after the press left, both parties separated into different rooms. Subsequently, he, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and other high-ranking officials informed Trump about the cessation of negotiations, as they did not see a path forward.
"(They said - ed.) almost unanimously, that after this insult in the Oval Office, we simply do not see how this can move forward, that any further interaction from this point on will only retreat," Waltz explained in an interview with Fox News.
As CNN reports, the U.S. National Security Advisor was then sent to convey the message that Zelensky was no longer welcome. When asked by Fox News whether the President of Ukraine realized what had happened, Waltz responded negatively.
"No, he did not realize. To be honest, his team did realize. His ambassador and his advisor were practically - I mean, they were almost in tears, wishing for this to move forward. But Zelensky still argued," the U.S. National Security Advisor shared.
He also mentioned that he advised the Ukrainian president that time was not on Ukraine's side.
"Time is not on your side here. Time is not on your side on the battlefield. Time is not on your side in terms of the global situation, and, most importantly, U.S. aid and taxpayer tolerance are not limitless," he informed.
He added that Zelensky "did not receive the memo that there is a new sheriff in town. This is a new president," and the U.S. is determined to adopt a new approach to the world.
Recall that in an interview with Fox News, Waltz also stated that yesterday's dispute between Trump and Vance with Zelensky was not a “setup” and premeditated. According to him, in the adjacent room, the parties were making a deal regarding rare earth resources that the heads of state were supposed to sign after the meeting.
