U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the President of Ukraine should not have allowed the war to happen. He placed part of the responsibility for the onset of the Russian invasion on Volodymyr Zelensky.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing Trump in an interview with Fox News.
"He should have prevented this war," Trump said.
At the same time, the American leader remarked that Zelensky is "not an angel." Trump did not specify which actions of the Ukrainian president he believed were erroneous.
According to Trump, a full-scale war by Russia against Ukraine could have been avoided by reaching an agreement.
"He is fighting a much larger entity, much larger, much more powerful. He shouldn't have done it because we could have reached an agreement, but Zelensky decided that 'I want to fight,'" said the 47th President of the United States.
Trump also compared the number of tanks in each country, emphasizing that Russia has more.
As noted by NBC News, the White House spokesperson did not respond to the question of how, in Trump's opinion, Ukraine should have acted when Russia launched a full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022.
Donald Trump's inauguration took place on January 20. Since taking office, he has made a series of statements regarding Ukraine and the war.
Even before winning the election, Donald Trump claimed that he could supposedly end the war in a day. He also stated that he wants to bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table.
The day before, on January 22, Trump posted a message to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on the social media platform Truth Social. He urged for an "agreement" to end the war soon and threatened Russia with tariffs and sanctions.
During a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump promised to work towards achieving a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia. He also noted that he would like China to participate in the peace process.
Additionally, the U.S. president mentioned that he wants to meet with Putin to put an end to the war in Ukraine.
