The President of the United States, Donald Trump, made a statement following the meeting between Russia and the United States in Saudi Arabia. According to him, Russia "performed well."
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Trump's press conference at the White House.
"Russia has performed very well. It wants to put an end to the madness that is occurring there. Its soldiers are dying by the thousands every week - these are not American soldiers; they are Russian and Ukrainian, and Koreans as well - a significant number of them have lost their lives," Trump stated.
He called the war senseless and reiterated that it would not have happened during his presidency.
"I see pictures from the battlefield - it's like Gettysburg (the Battle of Gettysburg - the largest battle during the American Civil War - ed.), with bodies everywhere. These are the losses of thousands of military personnel. Soon you will see the full numbers; you will be shocked at how many people have died, more than you think," the U.S. President said.
Let us remind you that on February 18, negotiations took place in Saudi Arabia between U.S. and Russian delegations. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky postponed his visit to the country, as he did not want any "coincidences" between the meetings of Russian and American officials, and he described such a meeting as a discussion about Ukraine without Ukraine's participation, stating that he would not recognize the results of the negotiations.
