Trump has tasked Musk with auditing expenses related to the Pentagon and education.

U.S. President Donald Trump has tasked billionaire Elon Musk with reviewing "almost everything," including spending on the Pentagon and education. The White House chief noted that some matters are "quite concerning."

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine referencing CNN.

During a press conference, a reporter from the publication asked whether Trump had instructed Musk to review Pentagon expenditures, considering that "these are the largest discretionary expenses." The U.S. President responded as follows.

"Yes, I did. The Pentagon, education, practically everything... I instructed him to look into education, to check the Pentagon, meaning the military sector. And, you know, unfortunately, you will find some things that are quite troubling. But I don't think you will see anything proportionally like what we just witnessed," Trump continued.

According to CNN, less than one-third of the federal budget for the fiscal year 2024 consists of discretionary spending, which is approved annually by Congress. Nearly half of discretionary spending goes to defense programs.

When asked by reporters if there was anything Musk could not touch, the president replied that they had not discussed that, but he dictates the areas where Musk should work. Trump stated that he would "choose a target" and tell Musk and his team to explore it.

"There may be areas we won’t be exploring, but I think everything is fruitful. I have instructed him to focus on education, the military, and to tackle other matters as they progress, and they are uncovering a tremendous amount of fraud, abuse, waste, and all that," Trump concluded.

It is worth noting that Elon Musk, who actively supported Trump's election campaign, has been appointed as a special government employee under the president's direction. He is not a volunteer or a full-time federal employee.

According to information from the Department of Justice, a special government employee is "anyone who works or is expected to work for the government for 130 days or less during a 365-day period."
