U.S. President Donald Trump informed reporters that he intends to speak with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday, February 3rd. The conversation will take place less than a day before American tariffs against Canada come into effect.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing CNN.

"Tomorrow morning I will talk to Prime Minister Trudeau, and tomorrow morning I will talk to Mexico. I do not expect anything very dramatic. We have imposed tariffs. They owe us a lot of money, and I am sure they will pay," Trump told reporters on Sunday.

Trudeau himself stated the day before that he has been trying to reach Trump since the inauguration, but his calls have gone unanswered.

In addition to announcing the upcoming conversations, Trump once again threatened to impose additional tariffs against the European Union, accusing the bloc of having "really crossed all boundaries."

"They don't take our cars, they don't take our agricultural products. They take almost nothing, while we take everything from them: millions of cars, a huge amount of food and agricultural products," Trump declared.

Meanwhile, CNN points out that Trump's statements regarding the EU not purchasing American agricultural products and cars are false. Specifically, the U.S. government claims that in the 2023 fiscal year, the EU purchased $12.3 billion worth of American agricultural products, making it the fourth-largest export market for U.S. agricultural and related products. At the same time, according to a report by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association published in December 2023, the EU is the second-largest market for the export of American cars.

Trump's Tariffs

Recall that Trump previously imposed tariffs on products from Canada, Mexico, and China, which will come into effect on February 4th. In response, Canada has implemented countermeasures, publishing a list of U.S. goods that are subject to tariffs. China, on the other hand, plans to appeal the American president's decision, threatening to respond to Washington with "countermeasures."

Amid the imposition of tariffs, Canada and Mexico decided to strengthen their relations.
