Donald Trump, the newly elected President of the United States, has decided to appoint former State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus as Deputy Special Envoy for Peace in the Middle East.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Axios.

On the social network Truth Social, Trump noted that Ortagus "fought with me for three years, but hopefully has learned her lesson."

"Typically, these things don't work out, but she has strong support from Republicans, and I'm doing this not for myself, but for them. Let's see what comes of it," Trump wrote.

Ortagus will join a team led by Trump’s close friend and confidant, Steve Witkoff.

"I hope she will be an assistant to Steve, a wonderful leader and talented specialist, as we aim to bring peace and prosperity to a very troubled region. I expect great results, and as soon as possible!" Trump added.

The Objectives of the "Peace Team"

Morgan Ortagus is an experienced expert in national security and foreign policy and will be a significant asset to the White House’s "Peace Team." Her role will involve working in a volatile region where the war in Gaza continues.

The team’s priority will be the release of hostages in the area and negotiating a ceasefire agreement, should one not be reached by January 20.

Additionally, the team will need to develop a "day-after" plan that includes extensive reconstruction efforts for Gaza.

Witkoff and Ortagus are also expected to work on one of Trump’s primary foreign policy goals—achieving a historic peace agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia.

According to Trump, he is interested in Witkoff and Ortagus bringing "peace and prosperity" to the Middle East.

"I expect great results, and soon!" wrote the newly elected President of the United States.

Who is Morgan Ortagus

Morgan Ortagus holds the title of active reserve intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy.

During Trump’s first presidential term, Ortagus served as the spokesperson for the State Department under then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Prior to that, she worked as a financial intelligence analyst at the Department of the Treasury and served as Deputy U.S. Treasury Attaché in Saudi Arabia.

The politician is close to many high-ranking Republicans, including future Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, future National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Trump’s Special Envoy for Special Missions Rick Grenell.

Ortagus also collaborated closely with Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner during the first presidential term.

The Situation in the Middle East

At the end of December, Hamas and Israel exchanged accusations over delays in establishing a ceasefire in the region.

Earlier, Donald Trump did not rule out the possibility of appointing businessman Massad Bulos as his chief advisor on Middle Eastern affairs. He is the father-in-law of the daughter of the 47th President.

Moreover, Trump warned Middle Eastern terrorists of a "hellish price" if they do not release hostages before his inauguration on January 20.
