U.S. President Donald Trump is not opposed to the presence of European peacekeepers in Ukraine. At the same time, he emphasized that there will be no American troops in Ukraine.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing a White House broadcast and CNN.

During his speech, one of the media representatives asked him if he supports the idea of deploying European peacekeepers in Ukraine, to which Trump responded positively.

"If they want it, I support it. I think everything will be fine with that. I know that France mentioned it, as well as the United Kingdom and other countries. If we have a peace agreement and there are troops, and Europe sees that it's necessary - great. Let it happen," the U.S. president stated.

He also stressed that there will be no peacekeepers from the United States in our country.

"We will not deploy troops there, but their (European) troops can be there, I don’t mind. The main thing is to have peace, to have a ceasefire, and without a ceasefire, that’s also an option. And I know that France wants to do this, a very good gesture," he said.

Trump was also asked if he is considering the option of withdrawing all American troops from Europe as part of a peace agreement with Russia, to which he replied that "that question has not been raised at all."

CNN, in turn, clarified the statement, noting that according to Trump, "no one has asked" him to withdraw all American troops from Europe if there is a peace agreement.

"So I don’t think we will have to do that," the American president added.

Summit in Paris

Recall that on Monday, February 17, an “emergency summit” took place in the capital of France, Paris, featuring leaders from European countries, including NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The parties discussed further support for Ukraine.

Just yesterday, February 18, it became known that France wants to hold another summit regarding Ukraine and security in Europe. According to Reuters sources, the summit is scheduled for today and will involve those countries that did not participate in Monday's meeting.

Specifically, the list of invitees includes Norway, Canada, the Baltic states, Czech Republic, Greece, Finland, Romania, Sweden, and Belgium. Several other countries may participate via video conference.
