U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a second round of peace talks regarding Ukraine with Russian diplomats. This will take place next week.
This information is reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Euronews.
According to the publication, Trump revealed the new phase of ceasefire negotiations in Ukraine between U.S. and Russian delegations in a statement released by the public network C-Span.
Trump stated that the talks will occur in the Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh, on February 25, just one week after the first round, which was held in the same city last Tuesday.
The publication also reminds us that following the meeting, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the parties generally agreed on achieving three objectives.
He emphasized that the negotiations, which involved his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov and other high-ranking Russian officials, initiated a dialogue and that there is still much work to be done.
Euronews also notes that the first round of negotiations in Riyadh prompted European allies to rally around Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is concerned about Trump's alleged pivot toward Moscow and fears that the negotiations may proceed without Ukraine's direct involvement, favoring Russia instead.
As a reminder, U.S. President Donald Trump has warned Ukraine of consequences if Kyiv does not sign an agreement granting the U.S. access to Ukrainian minerals. He predicts that if this does not happen, Ukraine will face "many problems".
