The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, visited Ukrainian defenders in the Kursk direction. He awarded the soldiers for their bravery and contributions in the fight against the aggressor.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing a statement from the commander-in-chief.
"During my time working in the Kursk direction, I awarded our brave warriors. The heroic actions of the Ukrainian military forced the enemy to maintain a significant grouping of forces on their territory and to redeploy reserves from other directions," Syrskyi emphasized.

"On December 30, another 189 Ukrainians returned from captivity. This is also your (referring to the military in the Kursk direction, - ed.) achievement, as during the operation in this direction our exchange fund was replenished with more than 700 captives," he added.
It is important to note that in August 2024, the Armed Forces of Ukraine began a counteroffensive operation in the Kursk region. This was the first large-scale offensive operation on Russian territory since the onset of the full-scale invasion.
Ukrainian troops crossed the border near the city of Sudzha and advanced deep into the Kursk region, taking control of significant territories and disrupting Russian units.
In the first months of the operation, the Armed Forces of Ukraine inflicted substantial losses on the enemy. According to Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, over three months of fighting, Russian losses reached approximately 21,000 soldiers, of whom more than 7,000 were eliminated, and 717 were captured.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine will retain the captured territories of the Russian Federation until it forces the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to sit at the negotiating table.
The operation also had strategic significance, forcing Russian command to cancel plans for an offensive on certain Ukrainian cities.
It should be noted that, according to the General Staff, as of this morning, January 1, Ukrainian Defense Forces advanced near Kreminna and in the Kursk region.
