Суд подтвердил обвинения против Трампа в сексуальном насилии.

The U.S. Federal Appeals Court upheld the jury's verdict that found Donald Trump guilty of sexual assault against writer E. Jean Carroll. The request from the former president for a new trial was denied.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing CNN.

The winner of the presidential election appealed a civil lawsuit for $5 million. Trump claimed that the trial judge made numerous errors. In particular, he allegedly considered the testimonies of two other women who claimed that Trump sexually assaulted them.

The appeals court concluded that the trial judge did not abuse his discretion in making decisions regarding the evidence. However, even if the judge had made some mistakes, the appeals court noted that, given Carroll's strong arguments, they were not convinced that Trump's rights were violated to such an extent as to warrant a new trial.

"Both E. Jean Carroll and I are pleased with today's decision. We thank the Second Circuit Court for their thorough consideration of the parties' arguments," said the lawyer for the victim, Robert Kaplan.

According to the civil court's ruling, the defendant faces no prison time. The jury acknowledged that Trump sexually harassed Carroll, which is sufficient for holding him accountable for battery. However, the jury did not find that the writer proved the fact of her rape.

Stephen Chung, Trump's chief spokesperson and new White House Communications Director, stated that further appeals will be forthcoming.

"The American people re-elected President Trump by a landslide, and he demands an immediate end to the political weaponization of our justice system and a swift cessation of all 'witch hunts,' including the Democrat-funded hoax by Carroll, which will continue to be contested. We look forward to uniting our country under a new administration, as President Trump makes America great again," Chung said.

The Case Against Trump for Sexual Assault

Writer E. Jean Carroll filed a lawsuit in 2023 under the "New York State Adult Survivors Act." This law opened a window to past allegations of sexual assault, similar to those made by the writer, which had long since expired the statute of limitations.

Carroll alleged that Trump raped her in the Bergdorf Goodman department store and defamed her when he denied her claims, stating that she was not his type. However, the politician suggested that she fabricated the story to boost her book sales and denied all accusations.

On May 9, 2023, the Federal Court in Manhattan found Trump guilty in the case of attempting to rape the writer.

According to the court's ruling, the politician will be required to pay the victim $2 million in damages. Additionally, Trump was found guilty of defamation for denying the incident and was awarded another $3 million in damages to Carroll. In total - $5 million. The politician filed an appeal against this court decision.

In January 2024, a separate jury awarded Carroll $83.3 million after finding that Trump defamed her by denying the sexual assault. The politician also filed an appeal against this verdict.
