The United States of America and Armenia have signed a charter on strategic partnership, which aims to expand cooperation in various fields.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing "Radio Azatutyun".

The ceremony took place in Washington, featuring U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.

"We are establishing a strategic partnership commission that envisions the expansion of cooperation in the areas of economy, security and defense, democracy, inclusivity, and interpersonal relations," Blinken noted.

He also stated that Washington is working with Yerevan to enhance efforts to protect Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Additionally, he announced the visit of a special team on border security from the U.S. for collaborative work in this area.

Mirzoyan emphasized that Armenia is ready to work with the new U.S. administration under the upcoming president, Donald Trump.

It is noteworthy that Armenia has been distancing itself from the Russian Federation for quite some time. Last year, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the suspension of participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) at all levels. This occurred after Moscow ignored a request for protection amid clashes on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

In December, Pashinyan remarked that Armenia had passed the point of no return in its relations with the CSTO.

In recent years, Russia's share in military-technical cooperation has decreased to 10%, as Armenia has sought other partners and begun collaborating with the EU and France.
