More than a thousand applications have been submitted to the Ukrainian Legion, which is currently being formed in Poland. The Polish side provides "quite serious conditions" for basic military training for volunteers.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Ukraine's ambassador to Poland, Vasyl Bodnar, in an interview with "Suspilne."
"I can't disclose the exact number right now, as this information is being kept confidential at the request of the Ministry of Defense. In total, we have more than a thousand applications that are currently under review by the relevant commission. We hope that this number will continue to grow," the ambassador explained.
Bodnar added that after basic military training, depending on the specialization of the soldier, there is a transfer to specialized training grounds for preparation related to specific functions.
"And only after that does the formation into the appropriate military unit on the territory of Ukraine take place, where those who have enlisted in the Ukrainian Legion are already under the direct command of a particular military unit," he clarified.
The Ukrainian Legion in Poland is a volunteer formation created for Ukrainian citizens living abroad, particularly in Poland, who wish to support the defense of their country amid a large-scale war.
This initiative allows Ukrainians, temporarily or permanently residing outside their homeland, to engage in military training and preparation so that they can participate in the defense of Ukraine in the future.
In October, recruitment for the Ukrainian Legion began in the Polish city of Lublin. The recruitment center operates daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
