In Kryvyi Rih, the scandal surrounding the construction of a memorial for fallen soldiers continues. This time, the families of the deceased held a protest near the city council, opposing the city authorities' idea to "distribute" 50,000 UAH for families to independently arrange gravestones for their loved ones, as reported by "Vidomo" citing "Na Chasi".

The families believe that local authorities aim to profit from the memory of the fallen and turn the memorial into a mere cemetery. They are outraged, as they wanted the honored burial sector to resemble a memorial, where each gravestone would have a uniform appearance—similar to those in other cities.

Local authorities took a firm stance when discussing the creation of the memorial, as the design and materials for the gravestones laid out by the developers did not satisfy all the relatives. Consequently, they were offered the option to create their own gravestones for 50,000 UAH.

According to the people, this undermines the very idea of establishing a sector for honored burials.

When on January 22, Inessa Blahun, the director of the Department of Social Policy of the Kryvyi Rih City Council, invited protest participants to the executive committee, she began to explain that the 50,000 UAH would be allocated as financial assistance to the families of the fallen soldiers. They would be able to use the funds at their discretion. However, in reality, this money does not yet exist. The decision to allocate these funds is to be made by the city council deputies at an upcoming session in a few weeks.

Regardless, the families of the fallen have not reached an agreement with the officials, and the conflict persists.
