Defense forces are deploying drones equipped with FAB-250 bombs for attacks on Russia. Here’s what we know.

Ukrainian forces are utilizing drones equipped with FAB-250 bombs to conduct attacks within Russia. Notably, this method was employed to strike the oil pipeline station "Druzhba" near Novozybkov.

This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Defense Express.

"The most unique aspect of this attack on the Russian oil pumping station is the unusual weapon system used for the operation," state OSINT analysts.

They claim that the Russian oil pumping station near Novozybkov was targeted with 250-kilogram FAB-250 M-54 bombs dropped from a drone.

Analysts from Defense Express also note that Ukrainian strike UAVs can deploy full-sized 250 kg bombs for attacks, highlighting that "it was with such munitions that one of the drone aviation units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine targeted facilities in the Bryansk region of the Russian Federation."

"The specific type of UAV has not been disclosed, but it is unlikely to be a surprise for the enemy," the analysts conclude.

What is known about these UAVs

According to Defense Express, these drones are reusable rather than kamikaze types, and after dropping a bomb, they return to base to be prepared by crews for new missions. The accuracy of the bombing is ensured by an optical targeting system.

Not the first discovery of drones with FABs

At the same time, analysts note that Ukraine has been using UAVs equipped with full-sized FABs for strikes for quite some time.

As an example, the publication cites an incident from April 2024. At that time, a photo emerged showing a lightweight aircraft SkyRanger in the Swift version, which had been converted into a strike UAV with a similar bomb and holder. However, the drone was equipped with a FAB-100 instead of a FAB-250.

As reported, the distribution station of the Druzhba oil pipeline was attacked in the Bryansk region of Russia on the night of January 30. A fire broke out there.
