The tough stance taken by U.S. President Donald Trump towards the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, urging him to halt the war against Ukraine, is not a warning. It is a signal from a strong leader.
This is reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing the statement of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with Il Foglio.
"I think what matters is that there is a signal from a strong person. It's like a shot. There is no warning shot in the air that alerts about something. He is not warning; he speaks directly. He says he truly wants to end the war. So far, we do not know how this will unfold; we do not know the details," Zelensky commented on Trump's statement.
According to him, the American president himself is still unsure how the war between Russia and Ukraine will conclude, particularly because Putin is not yet interested in peace.
"Trump understands all these challenges and simply states that it needs to end because it will get worse. And he is addressing this message to Russia. It seems to me that this is a tactic. I find it appealing today," Zelensky added.
Recall that recently, U.S. President Trump firmly urged Putin to stop the war and come to the negotiating table with Ukraine. Otherwise, according to Trump, the U.S. will be forced to take serious measures against Russia.
Additionally, Trump has set a 100-day deadline for his representative on Ukraine and Russia to find a solution to end the war. For more on the role the new U.S. administration may play in the peace process - read in the RBK-Ukraine article.
However, in response to Trump's statement, the Russian dictator claimed he is ready for negotiations, but allegedly, Ukraine does not want this, as it has adopted a "decree" prohibiting dialogue with Russia. To see how the Ukrainian president reacted to Putin's statement - read the link.
