The Chairman of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, is set to visit Russia in 2025. He has met with Vladimir Putin multiple times since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
This announcement was made by Moscow's ambassador to Beijing, Igor Morgulov, as reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Reuters.
"It is no secret that the priority for next year is the arrival of the Chairman of the People's Republic of China in Russia," Morgulov stated to the Russian state agency RIA Novosti.
Putin visited China in February 2022, proclaiming a partnership "without limits" just days before the invasion of Ukraine. Xi Jinping made a state visit to Moscow in March 2023, marking his first international trip after being re-elected for a third term.
Putin was again in Beijing in May of last year, following his re-election, declaring a "new era" of relations focused on countering U.S. policies.
Morgulov also informed RIA Novosti that China, which has refrained from condemning the 34-month war Russia has waged against Ukraine, understands the roots of the conflict, "as they face many of the same issues - the U.S. and its allies are increasing pressure on China in the Asia-Pacific region."
According to him, NATO is allegedly "developing plans to relocate its military infrastructure" to the region. He emphasized that Russia and China need to respond jointly to U.S. policies.
"On the international stage, our countries must respond with further 'dual resistance' to the 'dual containment' that the West is attempting against Russia and China," Morgulov stated.
According to a survey by the "Rating" group, in February 2024, China was categorized as an unfriendly country: 58% of Ukrainians view China as hostile.
