The U.S. delegation recently discussed in Saudi Arabia with Russian representatives the possibility of a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. Washington states that this depends on progress regarding the cessation of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

This was announced by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Reuters.

According to the American official, the meeting between Trump and Putin "will largely depend on whether we can achieve progress in ending the war in Ukraine."

Rubio mentioned that he discussed the possibility of such a meeting during a conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Saudi Arabia last Tuesday.

"There will be no meeting until we know what this meeting will be about," the U.S. Secretary of State conveyed to the Russian Foreign Minister and other members of the Moscow delegation.

During an interview with journalist Catherine Herridge, Rubio noted that "generally, you do not hold such meetings until you are aware of some result or have achieved certain progress."

"Therefore, I believe that when this meeting occurs will largely depend on whether we can achieve progress in ending the war in Ukraine," said the U.S. Secretary of State.

Rubio also thinks that such a meeting should be "what solidifies the agreement," and that "everyone should celebrate that President Trump is a peacemaker."

Recall that on February 11, President Donald Trump stated that he would "probably" meet with the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin by the end of February.

Prior to this, the American president mentioned that he spoke with the Kremlin leader over the phone, and the topic concerned Trump's efforts to expedite the conclusion of the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Additionally, President Donald previously commented on the outcomes of the meetings between delegations from the U.S. and Russia in Saudi Arabia. According to him, the Russian side supposedly "performed well," and allegedly wants to end the war.
