A video is circulating showing the execution of unarmed Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian terrorists. The lack of accountability turns the enemy's crimes into a systematic pattern.
This information is reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the Telegram channel of the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets.
According to Lubinets, the video shows that Russians executed six Ukrainian soldiers who were taken prisoner. The fate of the seventh fighter remains unknown, as the video cuts off.
"The execution of each captured individual occurs in front of their fellow soldiers. The occupiers order them to 'lie down and shut up,' while the 'operator' of the crime states 'One - mine,' and then it is visible how he fires a series of bullets into the back of one of the prisoners of war," Lubinets writes.
The Ombudsman added that Russian occupiers have never been known for treating prisoners of war with dignity and have once again demonstrated their helplessness and criminality.
"I am once again sending information about this crime to the UN and the ICRC. This fact must be documented! The absence of accountability has turned the crime into a system," he added.
As reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, a pre-trial investigation has been initiated regarding the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Donetsk region.
According to preliminary data, during the assault on Ukrainian soldiers' positions, terrorists captured six fighters and subsequently executed them.
"Currently, investigative actions are being carried out to establish all circumstances of the crime and the individuals involved in its commission," the Office of the Prosecutor General adds.
Russia has committed numerous war crimes during the war against Ukraine. These include mass killings of civilians, shelling of residential areas, hospitals, schools, and other civilian infrastructure. The most notorious atrocities occurred in Bucha, Irpin, Mariupol, and other cities, where torture, executions, and violence against the civilian population have been documented.
Recently, the United Nations Security Council held a meeting on Russia's crimes against Ukrainian prisoners of war and the civilian population.
