Россия нанесла ракетные удары по Украине накануне Нового года: какие последствия ожидают страну и регион в ближайшее время?

In the early hours of December 31, Russian forces launched missiles against Ukrainian cities. Explosions were heard in Kyiv, and the enemy also struck Shostka in the Sumy region.

RBK-Ukraine has compiled all the information available regarding the Russian attacks and their consequences.

It should be noted that since the night, Russians launched several groups of "Shaheds" towards Ukraine. Around 03:00, the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced a threat of ballistic weapon use from the northeast, while the Kyiv City Military Administration reported air defense operations in Kyiv. A fast-moving target was also reported heading towards the Shostka area in Sumy Oblast.

After the missile threat was lifted, monitoring channels resumed notifying Ukrainians about the movements of the "Shaheds," which were simultaneously attacking Ukraine.

By morning, around 07:30, missiles were again launched towards Ukraine. Reports emerged of guided aviation missiles being fired towards Myrhorod (Poltava region).

Strikes on Shostka

Shostka was once again targeted by missiles in the morning. The enemy carried out a missile strike on infrastructure, resulting in the destruction of several infrastructure facilities. Twelve multi-story residential buildings, two educational institutions, and other social sector facilities were damaged.

Emergency rescue units are currently working at the site. The mayor of the city, Mykola Noga, addressed local residents.

"I urge you to remain calm and not to ignore air raid signals! It is essential to stay in shelters! Schools, kindergartens, and homes! Employees of all institutions are working remotely," he stated.

Explosions in Kyiv

Explosions were also reported in the capital in the morning. The Air Forces reported fast-moving targets in the direction of Kyiv and Vasylkiv. Air defense was operational in Kyiv and the surrounding area.

Subsequently, the Kyiv City Military Administration reported that as a result of the missile strike on Kyiv, debris was preliminarily recorded falling in the Darnytskyi district of the capital.

"According to the information being verified, debris fell on the roof of a private building. There are no fires or destruction reported. No information about casualties has been received," said the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Serhii Popko.

By around 08:30, the Air Forces reported the takeoff of a MiG-31K from the "Savasleyka" airfield. This fighter is a carrier of "Dagger" missiles, but the aircraft did not conduct any launches.

Recall that after the Russian forces carried out a massive missile attack on Ukraine during Christmas, they may be preparing for another large-scale attack closer to New Year's Eve, as recently commented by Alexander Musienko, head of the Center for Military and Legal Studies, to RBK-Ukraine. He also did not rule out that the next large-scale strike could occur within 7-10 days after the New Year.

Data from the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Kyiv City Military Administration, the Sumy Regional State Administration, and the Shostka city council were used in preparing this material.
