On the night of January 17, Russia launched an attack on Ukraine using drones and ballistic missiles. One of the drones crossed into Romania.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Telegram.
That night, the Russians deployed two "Iskander-M" ballistic missiles from the Rostov region and launched 50 drones from five different locations: Millerovo, Orel, Bryansk, Kursk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
As of 9:00 AM, the destruction of 33 drones has been confirmed. Air defense systems were active in the Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Khmelnytskyi, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Odesa regions.
Additionally, nine imitation drones were locally lost (without negative consequences). According to the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, one drone exited the airspace of Ukraine heading towards Romania.
During the night, enemy drones attacked the Izmail district of Odesa region. The target was the port infrastructure. There were no casualties.
The Air Forces also noted that as a result of the downed enemy drones, buildings of institutions, private enterprises, and households were damaged in Kharkiv, Cherkasy, and Kyiv regions.
It was reported that in Kyiv region, a 12-year-old boy was injured as a result of the nighttime attack. The police and the State Emergency Service showcased footage of the aftermath of the attack in Kyiv region.
