The primary responsibility of the military ombudsman will be to review and respond to complaints from military personnel. The response time will be limited.
As reported by RBK-Ukraine, this was stated by military ombudsman Olga Reshetilova during a telethon.
"The most important tool for the military ombudsman will be the examination and response to complaints. We aim to define a very limited response period in the law. It could be three or five days," Reshetilova said.
She mentioned that just yesterday she received a report about the beating of a soldier in one of the units.
"These are the cases where we need to react very quickly and involve the military police, law enforcement, and senior command. The task of the ombudsman and their office will be to respond swiftly, without delaying the complaint, because there are situations where the soldier's safety is at risk," the ombudsman noted.
Recall that on December 30, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Olga Reshetilova (Kobylynska) as the President's Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of Military Personnel
Zelensky emphasized that Reshetilova is a well-known, experienced, and effective human rights defender.
He also highlighted that the main task is to work together with the Ministry of Defense and civil society to prepare a draft law on the military ombudsman and all the necessary foundations for the operation of this institution.
