The so-called "authorities" of Transnistria have decided to remove all checkpoints along the "border" with Moldova. This is a condition for the commencement of gas supplies to the region.
This was announced by the Moldovan delegation in the Joint Control Commission, as reported by RBK-Ukraine citing NewsMaker.
According to the delegation, during the commission meeting, the “representatives” of Transnistria indicated a reduction in the number of checkpoints in the region.
"The information will be verified on the ground by military observers from the Joint Peacekeeping Forces, who will move along planned routes and provide detailed reports," the delegation noted.
They added that Moldova has been advocating for the elimination of all unauthorized checkpoints along the “border” with Transnistria for several years.
The Moldovan government previously stated that the removal of checkpoints in Transnistria was one of the conditions for gas supplies to the region.
Transnistrian "authorities" established 33 checkpoints back in 2022. Since then, their number has decreased - only 11 remain active.
Recall that gas supplies to Transnistria ceased after Ukraine halted the transit of Russian gas. Against this backdrop, a crisis began in the region - rolling blackouts were introduced.
Moldova agreed to assist the region with gas supplies - which began on February 1.
