German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius assured that there is no blocking of the new aid package for Ukraine by Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He refuted recent media reports claiming that the head of the German government is opposing the supply of weapons.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing DW.
The head of the German defense ministry denied press information that Scholz is allegedly blocking an additional military aid package for Ukraine totaling 3 billion euros.
"There is no blocking," Pistorius stated in an interview with the German newspaper Tagesspiegel, which will be published on January 13.
At the same time, the head of the German Ministry of Defense noted that the internal coordination of this defense package within the German government has not yet been completed.
According to Pistorius, the German Ministry of Defense has prepared a new aid package, and a political decision on its provision to Ukraine now needs to be made.
Recently, the German weekly Der Spiegel wrote that Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz is allegedly against providing additional assistance of 3 billion euros to Ukraine.
The publication indicated that the provision of such a package to Kyiv before the Bundestag elections is supported by the heads of the German Ministry of Defense and Foreign Affairs, Boris Pistorius and Annalena Baerbock, respectively.
After the publication, the German government did not confirm the information released by Der Spiegel on January 10, but they also did not deny it.
It is worth noting that on January 12, German Foreign Minister Baerbock warned against significantly reducing financial support from Berlin for arms supplies to Ukraine amid Russia's large-scale military aggression.
According to Baerbock, last year the German government already allocated nearly 7 billion euros to support Ukraine.
Additionally, the preliminary federal budget of Germany for 2025 includes military assistance to Ukraine of approximately 4 billion euros.
Moreover, it was reported that on January 7, German Defense Minister Pistorius announced that Germany will "quickly" transfer additional Iris-T missiles to Ukraine.
On January 10, media reports emerged stating that Germany is preparing new large military aid packages for Ukraine, which may be provided in the first half of 2025. These packages will include, among other things, air defense systems, tanks, and howitzers.
