The United States Department of Defense (DoD) does not see significant effectiveness in the involvement of soldiers from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in the fighting in the Kursk region against the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF). However, North Korean forces are suffering substantial losses.

This was stated by Deputy Press Secretary of the U.S. Department of Defense Sabrina Singh during a briefing in Washington, as reported by RBK-Ukraine citing The Pentagon.

The representative of the American defense agency noted that the Pentagon agrees with the recently announced assessment by President Joe Biden's administration regarding the number of casualties among DPRK soldiers in the Kursk region during the fighting alongside Russian forces against Ukrainian defenders.

"The White House recently announced that approximately 1,000 DPRK soldiers have been killed or wounded in the Kursk area. This is also our assessment," Singh said.

The Deputy Pentagon spokesperson added that attacks from North Korean military in this region "are not proving to be significantly effective."

According to Singh, DPRK servicemen are suffering a "significant number" of losses in the Kursk region.

DPRK Troops' Participation on the Side of Russia in the War Against Ukraine

It is worth noting that, according to South Korea, around 11,000 DPRK soldiers have already been sent to Russia to assist Moscow in the war against Ukraine. A portion of these North Korean troops was deployed to the Kursk region after training to participate in the Russian army's battles against the UAF.

As President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated on December 16, Russia has already begun to involve DPRK soldiers in the fighting in the Kursk region.

Recently, it was reported in Seoul that at least 100 DPRK military personnel in Russia have already died during the fighting, while another 1,000 have been injured.

On December 26, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense also noted that DPRK troops in the Kursk region continue to suffer losses.

On December 27, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russian occupiers and North Korean overseers are trying to prevent DPRK soldiers from being captured. The head of state noted that there have been instances where they were finished off by their own.

On the same day, the White House reported that among DPRK soldiers in the Russian army, there are significant losses, and some North Korean military personnel are committing suicide.
