The Russian army launched a drone attack on the Sumy region on January 3. The Russians employed "Shaheds" equipped with shrapnel.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the acting head of the Sumy community, Artem Kobzar, on Telegram.
He noted that the invaders targeted the settlement of Pyschane. The "Shahed" that struck was loaded with shrapnel.
As a result of the attack by Russian drones, five houses in Pyschane were damaged. A headquarters is currently operating there to address the consequences of the attack.
It is important to note that shrapnel is an artillery shell with damaging elements. Essentially, it is a projectile "stuffed" with bullets. When it explodes, the smaller elements scatter, affecting a larger area.
This is not the first time the Russians have attacked Sumy and the region with shrapnel-laden drones. A similar incident was recorded in November 2024.
Russian forces carried out an airstrike on the city of Sumy on Friday, January 3. An enemy drone hit a residential area.
It was also reported that a private residential house in the Sumy community was damaged due to the debris from a "Shahed" falling.
In total, 17 Russian drones were destroyed in the Sumy region over the past day.
