The candidate for Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, has commented on the newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump. He noted that the future American leader is "very predictable."
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Bloomberg.
Merz stated that Trump is a "very predictable leader" with a clear agenda that will push Europe to implement necessary reforms more swiftly.
"He thinks what he says and does what he says," he remarked.
In Berlin, after a two-day meeting with heads of other conservative parties in Europe, Merz told reporters that, due to this, "one can expect much more clarity in the coming weeks and months, and that, of course, will also bring many challenges."
"Trump is accelerating the process in Europe that we were supposed to undertake anyway... In this sense, it is also an opportunity for us to do the right things," he added.
It is worth noting that after the "Free Democrats" (FDP) exited the coalition, a minority government remains in power in Germany, consisting of the Social Democrats (SPD) and the Greens.
The current Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, is the leader of the SPD, but his political strength is unlikely to garner enough votes for him to lead a new coalition government again. Recently, media reports indicated that Olaf Scholz's chances of re-election are rapidly diminishing.
At the same time, the largest bloc, CDU/CSU, which is currently in opposition, has electoral support greater than that of any individual parties, according to polls. If they manage to form a future coalition, it is highly likely that the position of Chancellor will be taken by the leader of the CDU, Friedrich Merz.
