The state operator of the power grid in Slovakia has promised to continue supplying electricity to Ukraine. Recently, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico threatened to halt these supplies.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing DW.
The Slovak state company SEPS assured that it will adhere to the contracts made with "Ukrenergo."
The company noted that last year it extended the agreement for the supply of up to 150 megawatts of electricity as part of emergency assistance to Ukraine. The company also facilitates cross-border electricity transmission under standard conditions.
In 2024, electricity exports from Slovakia to Ukraine reached 2.43 terawatt-hours, which is 3.5 times higher than the same period in 2023.
Recall that on January 1, Ukraine halted the transit of Russian gas to Europe and Moldova.
In turn, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico threatened to stop electricity supplies to Ukraine, demanding the continuation of Russian gas transit. Ukraine has called on the European Commission to respond to Fico's blackmail.
Following this, Fico resorted to new threats against Ukraine. The Prime Minister of Slovakia stated that the country might reduce assistance to Ukrainian refugees.
