In the Dnipropetrovsk region, the incidence of illness is rapidly increasing – an exceedance of the epidemic threshold has been recorded in the communities of the Dnipro, Pavlohrad, Kamianske, and Kryvyi Rih districts. This was reported by "Vydomo" citing the Dnipropetrovsk Center for Disease Control.
From February 14 to 20, over 19,000 cases of acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) were registered in the region. The incidence rose by 25%. The exceedance of the epidemic threshold ranges from 4% to 97% across different communities.
Experts attribute the spike to the circulation of the influenza virus. In Dnipropetrovsk, viruses A and B, parainfluenza, adenoviruses, metapneumovirus, and seasonal COVID-19 have been detected, specialists noted. Since the beginning of 2025, more than 2,000 cases of coronavirus have been registered in the area.
"Influenza is characterized by an abrupt onset of illness. The first two days include: severe headache, high fever, and mild throat discomfort. From the third day, symptoms such as a runny nose, dry cough, and pain in the trachea and chest appear. If clinical symptoms diminish within 5-7 days, it is advisable to seek medical attention. The incubation period for influenza ranges from 1 to 7 days," said Vladimir Chumak, a representative of City Clinical Hospital No. 4, during a briefing on February 25.
According to forecasts, the rise in illness will continue for several more weeks.
