The Moldovan government extended the licensing for the import of wheat, corn, and sunflower seeds for another six months during a meeting on Monday, December 30.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Newsmaker.
It is noted that the import restrictions on agricultural products will remain in effect until June 30, 2025.
As clarified by the country's government, this extension of restrictions aims to protect local farmers and maintain stability in the domestic market.
"The import licensing mechanism was introduced in October 2023. It helped prevent an oversupply of goods imported at lower prices, which could have led to a decrease in the value of local products," the government explained.
It is also worth mentioning that on December 20, the "Farmers' Power" association threatened to block all border checkpoints with Ukraine due to the authorities' failure to extend the grain import restrictions set to expire on December 31.
Recall that the EU plans to strengthen checks on compliance with agreements regarding the import of grain from Ukraine.
