Slovakia is keen to see the war in Ukraine come to an end as soon as possible. However, the reality indicates that the country may have to relinquish some of its territories.
This was stated by Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kalinák, as reported by RBK-Ukraine citing his interview with the TA3 television channel.
"Our primary interest lies in the immediate cessation of the war and the initiation of some form of peace negotiations or a ceasefire, in which we can all, of course, participate. But it is crucial that, above all, people stop dying," he said.
At the same time, Kalinák acknowledges that the aggressor in this war is the Russian Federation, as it has violated all norms and breached international law.
During the interview, the minister emphasized that organizing the country post-war is essential.
"It is quite likely that Ukraine does not realize it will never be situated between Germany and Switzerland, but will always have the longest border with the Russian Federation. There is no doubt about who the aggressor is here, as Russia has crossed all boundaries and violated international law. However, we must also observe what is happening in other areas and whether we have the same standards for other disputes," he stated.
Regarding defense spending, Kalinák mentioned that it is important to focus on new military trends. He stressed that the current leadership of the Ministry of Defense knows where Slovakia's military reserves are and what priorities should be followed.
We remind you that Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kalinák called for negotiations to end the war in January 2024. At that time, he stated that the war in Ukraine has no military solution.
