The chairperson of the "Alternative for Germany" faction in the Bavarian Parliament, Katrin Ebner-Steiner, believes that refugees from Ukraine should return to their homeland. In her view, this should happen "right now."
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing DW.
The leader of the Bavarian branch of the "Alternative for Germany" (AfD), Katrin Ebner-Steiner, stated that Ukrainian refugees should go back to their country. In a comment to the Sat.1 channel on January 16, she noted that she supports "remigration" to prevent Germany from becoming "more Islamized."
Journalist Johann Özell from Süddeutsche Zeitung, who attended the AfD meeting in Regensburg on January 14-15, reported that Ebner-Steiner mentioned Ukrainians. According to her, Ukraine is a large country with "enough territory" for refugees to return. She emphasized that the number of foreigners that can be expelled from Germany, including Ukrainians, reaches two million people.
Ebner-Steiner called for a "massive remigration" and advocated for declaring a "refugee emergency" in Bavaria to limit their settlement. She also expressed opposition to the presence in the region of "aid recipients who do not wish to integrate."
It is worth noting that just yesterday, information emerged that Germany and Ukraine have agreed to create a network of support centers for Ukrainian refugees called "Unity Hub."
The first center will open in Berlin shortly.
At the same time, it is known that in 2024, the number of asylum requests in European countries decreased by more than 130,000, which is approximately a 12% drop.
However, it should be noted that Germany remains the leader in the number of initial applications submitted.
