U.S. President Donald Trump aims to meet with Russia and China to discuss reducing defense spending. The meeting could take place once the conflicts in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip "settle down."
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing AP.
"Once we resolve everything (the wars in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip - ed.), one of the first meetings I want to have is with President Xi of China and President Putin of Russia. And I want to say: let’s cut our military budget in half," Trump told reporters at the White House.
According to Trump, he also wishes to resume denuclearization talks with both countries.
This move, the publication notes, would contradict decades of traditional Republican positioning on national defense.
Previously, Trump stated that he would end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours. This assertion was later revised. Subsequently, the statements from Trump’s administration regarding the war in Ukraine became less optimistic.
In early February, U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, mentioned that the war in Ukraine could be concluded in months, not years.
As for the Gaza Strip, Trump proposes temporarily relocating Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Egypt and Jordan.
