On Friday, December 20, the United States allocated $571 million in military aid. In response, China criticized this decision.
This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Reuters.
Today, the People's Republic of China stated that the new aid package seriously violates the "One China principle" and the agreements between the People's Republic of China and the United States.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry added that the country will take "all necessary measures" to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Additionally, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs referred to Taiwan as a "red line that cannot be crossed" in Sino-American relations.
Reuters reminded that Beijing considers the democratically governed Taiwan as part of its territory, a claim that the government in Taipei rejects.
It is worth noting that the last decision to allocate aid to Taiwan was made by U.S. President Joe Biden. Under this package, the country will receive $571 million.
The White House stated that in addition to allocating funds, specifically regarding their use, Biden delegates these powers to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
"I delegate to the Secretary of State the authority... to utilize up to $571.3 million for defense articles and services of the Department of Defense, as well as for military education and training to assist Taiwan," the statement read.
