Today, December 31, Ukrainian soldiers from the special unit GUR MO "Group 13" have made history by destroying an aerial target using the Magura V5 strike sea drone. This refers to the elimination of an enemy Mi-8 helicopter.
This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing GUR.
The unique operation took place in the Black Sea near Cape Tarkhankut in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
It is noted that the Ukrainian sea drone Magura V5 is equipped with R-73 "SeeDragon" missiles, which were used to strike the Russian helicopter.
Additionally, it is known that another occupier's helicopter sustained significant damage but managed to return to its base aerodrome.
Ukrainian sea drones have become one of the most discussed components of modern military technology. Ukraine is actively developing its own unmanned maritime systems, which have already demonstrated their effectiveness in combating the enemy amid the full-scale war with Russia.
Magura V5 is the most renowned model of this type of UAV, becoming the first in the world capable of destroying aerial targets.
These drones are equipped with cameras for reconnaissance and targeting. They also utilize advanced GPS navigation and artificial intelligence systems for autonomous operations.
Some models of sea drones can operate at distances exceeding 800 km, allowing them to carry out missions deep behind enemy lines.
The targets for sea drones include: military ships of the Russian Federation in the Black Sea, enemy ports, oil storage facilities, air defense systems, and other strategic sites in temporarily occupied territories.
Moreover, these drones ensure the safety of maritime corridors and civilian shipping.
It is known that in May of this year, the Magura V5 drones inflicted damage worth $500 million on the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
